What is the sprint backlog?

I believe that many of my issues with the sprint backlog is that it's very unclear what is consists of. Is it user stories, or objectives, or is it tasks? We are going to try to make that more concrete so we all know what we're talking about. And what we're working with. We're now leaning against making the sprint backlog a list of just tasks. A to-do-list.
