PDC Badges - scrapbooking for developers?

Reading about the PDC badges, I can't help thinking that the citation "Collecting Badges is the way for Attendees to capture their experience at the PDC conference" is something I thought I would find when traveling to Disney World with my four-year-old, not the Microsoft Partner conference.

But then I realized that this is scrapbooking, for developers. And I never understood that either.
